Boss, The / Il boss (1973)

Following Milano calibro 9 and La mala ordina, both of 1972, Il Boss completes an incredible crime trilogy.

Il Boss stars Henry Silva as a ruthless hitman who is caught up in an inter-family Mafia war. It is a tale of continuous double cross as a body count increases at a relentless pace within an organisation that permeates not only the police but also the legislature with whom the mob have a symbiotic relationship.

Vittorio Caprioli provides the feature with some light comic relief in a world in which Fernando Di Leo provides little room for sentimentality and few characters worthy of sympathy. The movie ends with a tantalising but never realised promise of a story that is to be continued. Il boss, like the others of this series, is a film that comes highly recommended. It's a true Italian classic of the gangster genre.
