How We Robbed the Bank of Italy / Come svaligiammo la banca d'Italia (1966)

Long before Lucio Fulci was known as a horror director he was making a name for himself with a series of rock and roll quickies and comedies, many of which starred Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingrassia.

In this outing Franco and Ciccio play a pair of inept petty crooks who seek to live up to a family lineage of master criminals. Egged on by their airheaded and equally awkward girlfriends the pair seek to prove themselves as gangsters. Upon discovering the plans of their master criminal brother to rob the bank of Italy they decide to enact this plan themselves and do so with an assembled team of incompetent criminals.

While the finale of How We Robbed the Bank of Italy is extremely funny and manic I would guess that those who have little time for the Jerry Lewis-esque gurning and grimacing of Franco Franchi may find their patience snapping with this one. It may be a little sub Pink Panther but personally I have a soft spot for this.
