Bloody Payroll / Milano violenta (1976)

3.0 out of 5

Milano violenta is an Italian crime film directed by Mario Caiano who also directed the procedure heavy Calling All Policecars.

The film begins with a violent robbery on a payroll which results in the gang becoming split. This acts as a convenient point to dovetail the story into a police procedural and allow to us to separately follow the story of the villains and the antagonisms in the gang.

The few car chases are well handled and the violence is particularly nihilistic. Using a few familiar locations, for example a disused abattoir which will be familiar to fans of Fernando Di Leo crime movies, Milano violenta stars Vittorio Mezzogiorno (Stunt Squad) and also features the always delightful character actor John Steiner who sadly buys the farm far too early.
