3.5 out of 5

Eyewitness is part of a series of made for TV films presented by Dario Argento under the name of La porta sul buio or translated as Door Into Darkness. The film opens with a talking head segment by Argento himself. Penned by Dario and Luigi Cozzi and directed by Roberto Pariante who served as an assistant to Argento on Four Flies On Grey Velvet and The Bird With The Crystal Plumage among others. Dario Argento shared a director role but is uncredited.

Starring Maril├╣ Tolo and running at a tight 53 minutes the film is in essence a giallo but also strays into the realm of the psychological thriller. The clues are revealed in an orderly fashion and while it should not be difficult to deduce the identity of the killer and victim along with motivation the strong storytelling makes a refreshing change from some of the madcap and filler padded lesser and sometimes shark jumping entries into the giallo roll.
