Quiet Place In The Country, A / Un tranquillo posto di campagna (1969)

4.0 out of 5

With a strange arty opening that at first feels far too clever to be engaging and a discordant score from Ennio Morricone we are ultimately treated to an incredibly inventive study of the descent into madness from director and writer Elio Petri.

A tortured artist played by Franco Nero seeks an escape from an uninspiring urban environment to work and finds a run down villa. Nero goes all Jack Torrance as he becomes captivated by a nymphomaniac ghost presenting him with a genre typical mystery to solve.

This is a horror and supernatural tale that would truly appeal to lovers of ghost stories. Vanessa Redgrave also stars.
