Spider Labyrinth / Il nido del ragno (1988)

Wow! This film is jaw dropping. A real surprise.

Set in Budapest and starting at a slow pace with the suggestion of a conspiracy along the lines of Short Night Of Glass Dolls the film moves into the final third by accelerating the pace somewhat.

There is a suggestion of the subject matter in the English title and it does indeed involve both spiders and a labyrinth of sorts.

There is some Bava-esque lighting, a transformation along the lines of John Carpenter's The Thing and a witchy woman reminiscent of Nightmare Castle as Spider Labyrinth goes through a metamorphosis from a solid conspiratorial and paranoid giallo into a bit of a creature feature. This one has to be seen.
