Baba Yaga (1973)

4.0 out of 5

Baba Yaga is a surreal and dreamlike film that follows a fashion photographer as she's being stalked and manipulated by an obsessed witch. Compensating for a slow pace and a somewhat incoherent plot, Baba Yaga nicely combines erotica, psychological horror, and the supernatural, and features a satisfying dose of atmosphere and wonderful cinematography to boot. Isabelle de Funes is good in the lead role as Valentina, and she's complimented well by Carroll Baker as the titular witch. Familiar genre actor George Eastman turns up as Valentina's love interest. Recommended as a curious viewing for those looking to seek out well-done, surreal Italian cinema.
