Poker In Bed / La signora gioca bene a scopa? (1974)

2.5 out of 5

That the English language title sounds a little bit like poke her in bed should suggest that this is in fact a sex comedy, quelle surprise!

Unlucky poker player, gigolo and shoe salesman Carlo Giuffrè is a bit of a player, much in demand. His world is turned upside down when Edwige Fenech, a saucy German minx Eva, steps out of a shower and into this movie around the thirty minute mark.

It is unsurprising that this effort from Giuliano Carnimeo, a man associated with Exterminators Of The Year 3000, features the name Luciano Martino, producer, somewhere in the credits and he wrote this one along with prolific genre writer Tito Capri and star Carlo Giuffrè who gets all the best lines.

There is a tiny slapstick element with a cowshed seduction but Poker In Bed, surpringly, steers clear of farce and gets by on quick delivered chirpy dialogue. A breezy and memorable whistling score from Alessandro Alessandroni completes the frivolous and good natured mood of the piece that could possibly be compared to the British Confessions series of movies sans gaptoothed moptop pug Robin Askwith.
