Violent Professionals / Milano trema - la polizia vuole giustizia (1973)

2.5 out of 5

Sergio Martino's Eurocrime film, Violent Professionals, boasts an impressive opening sequence in which a couple of escaped prisoners ruthlessly lay waste to anyone who gets in their way. Until a rebellious and aloof police lieutenant played by Luc Merenda shows up to save the day, that is. Unfortunately, instead of the opening sequence setting the tone and foreshadowing the awesomeness to come, it ended up being the highlight of this uninteresting and somewhat boring film. Those looking to see a violent poliziotteschi that reeks of Sergio Martino's signature style will be disappointed. With the exception of the aforementioned opening sequence and a fun car chase set-piece, Violent Professionals is a by-the-numbers movie with not a lot going for it. The performance of Luc Merenda, who later on in his career got some exposure to mainstream American audiences thanks to Eli Roth in Hostel II, left much to be desired.
