Desert Commandos / Attentato ai tre grandi (1967)

Umberto Lenzi writes and directs this Boys Own style men on a mission Euro combat set during the North Africa campaign. The film is unusual in that it takes the war from a German perspective.

There are serious points made concerning racism and writer Lenzi does attempt to understand the motives of those drawn to supporting and taking part in the war from the German side despite it not being a conflict of their choosing as a team of five disguised soldiers cross the desert on a mission to assassinate an allied leader as Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin meet.

Horst Frank is a German officer and Jeanne Valérie provides an Arab love interest in this perfect Sunday afternoon movie that could easily be seen as a re-costumed western.
