Evil Clutch / Il bosco 1 (1988)

Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni and Diego Ribon are a young couple vacationing in the Alps, who encounter lots of supernatural weirdness after stumbling upon a deserted village surrounded by a cursed forest. There they are menaced by demonic zombies and a nymphomaniac witch that hides a clawed appendage in her nether regions, as they try desperately to escape.

Andreas Marfori wrote and directed this blatant rip-off of Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead, which relies excessively on using Raimi’s distinct low-angle point of view camera shots to indicate an omnipresent evil. The film suffers from laughable dialogue and dubbing, atrocious acting, an incoherent story, and poor make-up effects. There are some extremely gory scenes which are wasted due to the lack of lighting that makes them impossible to see at night.

Fans of Demons 2 will recognize not only star Cataldi-Tassoni, who played Sally in Lamberto Bava’s film, but also Stefano Molinari, the demon who popped out of the television set to possess Sally. Evil Clutch is recommended for those who enjoy unintentionally bad low-budget films, but all others should avoid it.
