Copkiller / Copkiller - l'assassino dei poliziotti (1983)

5.0 out of 5

Based on the novel Order Of Death by Hugh Fleetwood and starring Sex Pistols frontman Johnny Rotten who turns in a blinding performance as a wealthy social misfit in what is a battle of wills between himself and Harvey Keitel, a corrupt cop, as what seemingly starts as Stockholm Syndrome twists and turns in the most nail biting fashion in a story told against the backdrop of a series of murders of drug squad officers.

Vigilante justice, the alienation of Taxi Driver, the corruption of Serpico and character driven minimalism akin to Reservoir Dogs makes the gritty Copkiller an incredible giallo that features strong supporting roles from Nicole Garcia and Leonard Mann.

The scene stealing Sex Pistol owns every frame in which he appears as he stares and grimaces a performance that simply oozes sheer menace and admirably holds his own against a far more experience co star. Scored by Ennio Morricone, with a delightful soundtrack that at times reminds of Fear Over The City, this is a unique, unsettling and essential thriller from Roberto Faenza.
