Ricco the Mean Machine / Un tipo con una faccia strana ti cerca per ucciderti (1973)

3.5 out of 5

This is truly a Eurotrash classic! Starring Christopher Mitchum as the title character Ricco who is out for revenge against the crime boss who murdered his father and who stole the heart of his girlfriend. But the latter is all ok as our vengeful hero has managed to find for himself a new woman, played here by the beautiful Barbara Bouchet, who even helps Ricco dispatch two mobsters by performing a striptease in front of their car late at night upon a lonely fog surrounded bridge. This would be a fabulous shoot for a Playboy magazine!

Confused yet? Sound strange? Well, it is incredibly strange to say the least as this film is very bizarre and strangely mixes graphic violence and true scenes of brutal horror and gore which include the notorious male castration sequence and of course the acid bath death, hence the film's alternative title Cauldron Of blood.

Though the film begins rather poorly with some badly choreographed fight scenes and hammy low key acting and not to mention a weedy looking Christopher Mitchum as our would be avenging hero it does however surprisingly work as a classic of 70's Italian action exploitation cinema and therefore should not be missed by fans of such.
