Stuntman / Le cascadeur (1968)

3.0 out of 5

Stuntman is a heist caper style movie with lots of twists and double-crosses and as such would belong alongside films such as Operazione san gennaro, Grand Slam and Le casse.

Even though there is some great stunt work that is worthy of the title, much of it involving the smashing of cars, there is nothing to compare directly with the incredible car down the steps manoeuvre of The Burglars. However there is an attempt at a smaller scale equivalent with a man hurtling down a set of steps in a wheelchair.

As expected of a feature of the period there are some pretty funky dance moves on show and some of the most impressive displays of overlarge sunglasses this side of Eugenie de sade which, like Stuntman, features Paul Muller.

While the film features, on a few occasions, that poliziottesco trademark of the wheel level shot this is a million miles from gritty tough cop films of subsequent years and instead is frothy and light entertainment with comedic touches.

Robert Viharo takes the lead while Marisa Mell gets to dance around for a while as she sheds clothes.
