2020 Texas Gladiators / Anno 2020 - I gladiatori del futuro (1986)

2.0 out of 5

A spelling mistake on a sign early in the feature would have promised explosive action, but doesn't quite, in this delightful post nuclear Social Darwinist shitfest from Joe D'amato but the car and motorbike customisation is way below par for the genre in this film which is, in truth, a western re-costumed in leathers, eye patches and studs.

By no means an awful movie, nor a genre classic, the highlight has to be the over the top pantomime Nazi played by Donald O'Brien while Sabrina Siani, Ocron from Conquest, acquits herself well and fulfils the exploitation friendly girls-with-guns quota.

Ecological themes are addressed and cross cultural co-operation promoted with the addition of a native American tribe which stand in stark contrast to the Handmaids Tale like fascistic dystopia of O'Brien and his motorcycle helmeted goons.

Proof is offered that the Scramble game from Konami can withstand nuclear war as can, apparently, horses, peroxide hair dye, cows, wigwams and dirt bikes.

Geretta Geretta puts in an appearance, briefly, as does Hal Yamanouchi but it is Al Cliver that takes top billing despite buying the radiation scarred farm early in the film.
