Witchery / La Casa 4 (1988)

3.0 out of 5

The second in a line of Italian Evil Dead sequels, this entertaining D’Amato produced horror film involves a group of characters, most notable among them being David Hasslehoff and Linda Blair, trapped on an island and under serious threat from a witch.

The Hoff in an Italian horror film is just as bizarre as the films D’amato is known for. Nonetheless, Hasselhoff admirably tackles his role with enthusiasm and even though she is exploited in a possession scene, Blair feels underused and doesn’t add as much to the movie as one would hope.

Though occasionally stupid, there’s no denying that Witchery has balls. The grandiose, violent, and brutal kill scenes delivered from the Witch and her cronies demand the viewer’s attention, and the last second, Filmirage style, surprise ending shares a similarity to the ending of a 2009 film known as The House of the Devil.
