Cream Horn / Cornetti alla crema (1981)

Director Sergio Martino is probably better known for his giallo and exploitation films, but the man behind Mondo Sex and The Case of the Scorpion's Tail gives us a decidedly superior sex comedy. By focusing on comedy, rather than sex, Martino piles on the laughs in an increasingly convoluted plot.

Hostel 2's Edwige Fenech and Mariano Laurenti regular Lino Banfi shine as the unlikely lovers in a story that could be described as a heterosexual cousin to La Cage aux Folles, with Banfi juggling his lover, her boyfriend and his own wife and son.

In the average sex comedy, the plotting and acting are secondary to the soft porn. Despite the terrible pun in the title, Cream Horn actually contains very little nudity. Unusually, however, the performances are good enough to compensate for the lack of flesh on display. Fans of Fenech's other films may feel short-changed, but here she is given opportunity to expose her acting talents instead.
