Holocaust 2000 (1977)

It's The Omen really except the Antichrist in question plans to unleash hell by creating what resembles a prop from the British afternoon game show Golden Balls as foretold in The Bible. Lots of great ideas here and most of them are lifted wholesale from The Omen however this possesses a completely different aesthetic and ambiance.

Stand-out scenes include eerie segments in an asylum reminiscent of those in the zombie infested morgue in The Beyond, a dream sequence featuring an incredibly cool Anton LaVey style Satan and Kirk Douglas running around buck naked on a salty desert in front of a Hydra-like multi-bonced dragon thing.

It may be as original as a Rentaghost remake but in truth the film is good and a jaw-dropping Dawn of the Dead style helicopter decapitation will certainly hit the sweet spot of any gorehounds.

Supporting roles by Adolfo Celi and Agostina Belli may be of particular interest to Italian genre film fans.
