In Prison Awaiting Trial / Detenuto in attesa di giudizio (1971)

Alberto Sordi is an innocent man, who, in the vein of the song by Jerry Dammers' band Special AKA just can't get a break. He finds himself caught, due to oversight, within the prison system in this blackest of comedies that takes within it's sights the justice and penal system and the absurdity of the bureaucratic world of the pencil-necked pen pushers and their unquestioning Stanford prison experiment style adherence to rules and regulations for the sake of correct ticks in the right boxes. Think Brazil, think I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang, think Orwell and think Kafka. Think Joseph Heller. But most of all think about tracking down this little gem for the film itself is brilliant. Brilliantly sad and at times brilliantly funny. Nanni Loy directs.
