Chronicle of a Love / Cronaca di un amore (1950)

Sentenced to a mundane and empty bourgeois marriage with all happiness traded away for security Lucia Bosé rekindles a relationship with Massimo Girotti as two tragic and lost souls revive youthful love of a number of years past in this Double-Indemnity-like film noir style drama and thriller.

The location work, the rain soaked streets of a Milan in the period of post-war reconstruction giving the feel of, stylistically at least, the point where film noir intersects with neorealism. A great debut feature from Michelangelo Antonioni.
