For those who thought Laser Blast was bad, here director Enzo G. Castellari remakes High Crime but decides to trash everything from that classic by replacing it with horrendous, boring punch-ups, uninteresting narrative, no suspense, ridiculous slow-motion montages lifted from a soap commercial, and the WORST theme to ever grace a 1980s, mushy poliziottescho. Composer Paolo Vasile contributes a song so wretched, and Castellari repeats it so often, that were the viewer a 3rd world dictator they would have to condemn the two of them to death. Even the San Francisco/Genoa locations lack atmosphere due to Castellari’s sloppy presentation of them. Castellari, himself, makes a cameo as a thug.

I like this one, actually. The "soap opera" comment is spot on with regards to some of the slow-mo, but I thought it was a nice blend of humor and action, Castellari style. Dig Vasile's score, as well!
ReplyDeleteHi, George, thanks for comment. I don't dislike this one as much as Aaron but I see where he is coming from. I disliked this one a bit. I find Castellari an extremely frustrating director- at his best he is great (Street Law for example) but other times he is awful (Cold Eyes of Fear) .
ReplyDeleteI certainly prefer High Crime to this. Come to think of it I wasn't too excited by Heroin Busters either. Though it has been a long time since I seen it.
Yeah, Cold Eyes of Fear isn't very good at all, now is it? I felt similarly about Heroin Busters, as well, although I DO enjoy that one a bit, particularly the Goblin score! Good cast, as well.
DeleteOnly half a star for this one? Ouch! I didn't think it was that bad. In fact, I found it fairly enjoyable, although it certainly pales in comparison to Castellari's earlier triumphs such as STREET LAW and THE BIG RACKET. Franco Nero and Sybil Danning are good, but the real highlight for me is the awesome trannie fight in the disco. And i LOVE the theme song, but then again I've always had a thing for bad but catchy songs from Italian films.
ReplyDeleteHere here, Johan! Agreed, I love that scene, as well! Bully main theme from Vasile, as well.
